Turtle Fudge Squares (Printable Version)

A layered treat combining smooth caramel, melted chocolate, and chopped pecans for a luscious sweet bite.

# What You'll Need:

→ Caramel

01 - 12 ounces caramel squares (approximately 42 squares)
02 - 2 to 3 tablespoons whipping cream, divided

→ Chocolate Mixture

03 - 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (12 ounces)
04 - 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
05 - ½ tablespoon vanilla extract
06 - Pinch of salt

→ Nuts

07 - 1 cup chopped pecans plus extra for topping (optional)

# Step-by-Step Guide:

01 - Grease and line an 8 by 8-inch square pan with parchment paper.
02 - Bring a small amount of water to a boil in a small pot. Place a heat-safe bowl over the pot and combine caramel squares with 2 tablespoons of whipping cream. Melt on low heat, stirring occasionally, until smooth. If caramel is not smooth, add the remaining tablespoon of whipping cream and mix thoroughly. Remove from heat and keep warm over the pot.
03 - In a medium-small pot or double boiler, melt together chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth. Remove from heat and stir in chopped pecans.
04 - Pour about half of the chocolate mixture into the prepared pan. Spread all of the melted caramel over the chocolate layer, then pour the remaining chocolate mixture on top.
05 - Use a knife to gently swirl the layers together as desired. Sprinkle additional chopped pecans on top if preferred.
06 - Cut into squares of desired size and serve.

# Additional Notes:

01 - If the caramel is not smooth after initial melting, adding extra whipping cream helps soften the texture.
