01 -
In a large mixing bowl, blend all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, salt, and instant dry yeast. Incorporate the egg, soy milk, water, and margarine, stirring until a coarse dough begins to form.
02 -
On a floured surface, knead the dough by pressing and folding with your palms for 5 to 10 minutes until smooth, elastic, and no longer sticky.
03 -
Shape dough into a ball and transfer to a greased bowl. Cover with a clean cloth or food film, and allow to rise in a warm environment for 2 hours, or until volume doubles or triples.
04 -
Roll the risen dough to 1/3 inch thickness. Cut into rounds using a donut cutter or 3-inch ring mold, and create center holes with a bottle cap. Gather scraps, re-roll, and continue cutting as needed.
05 -
For frying: Heat 2 inches of oil in a medium pan over medium-high heat. Fry each donut for about 5 seconds per side or until golden brown. For baking: Preheat oven to 390°F. Arrange donuts on a lined tray and bake for 15 minutes or until golden.
06 -
Mix powdered sugar with soy milk until smooth. Add drops of food coloring and swirl gently with a wooden stick to achieve a marbled, galaxy-like appearance.
07 -
Allow donuts to cool completely. Dip or spread glaze over each donut. Let glaze set for several minutes until dry before serving.
