In a 3-4 quart saucepan over medium heat, combine granulated sugar, margarine, and evaporated milk. Stir constantly for 5-8 minutes until mixture reaches a rolling boil.

Maintain the mixture at a hard boil for exactly 5 minutes, stirring constantly, then remove from heat.

Add semi-sweet chocolate chips to the hot mixture and stir continuously until fully melted and smooth.

Stir in marshmallow creme and vanilla extract until the mixture is homogenous and free of marshmallow streaks; fold in chopped walnuts.

Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and smooth evenly with an offset spatula. Allow to cool completely before lifting from pan and cutting into 1x1 inch squares.
