Crockpot white bean ham (Printable Version)

Tender white beans and smoky ham simmered with vegetables and herbs for a comforting slow-cooked dish.

# What You'll Need:

→ Beans

01 - 1 pound dried great northern or navy beans (or 3 cans, drained and rinsed)

→ Meat

02 - 1.5 pounds ham bone, ham hock, or diced leftover ham

→ Vegetables

03 - 1 medium onion, diced
04 - 3 carrots, peeled and sliced
05 - 2 celery stalks, diced
06 - 3 cloves garlic, minced

→ Liquids & Seasonings

07 - 6 cups low-sodium chicken broth or vegetable broth
08 - 1 teaspoon dried thyme
09 - 1 bay leaf
10 - 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
11 - Salt to taste

→ Optional

12 - 1 cup chopped kale or spinach

# Step-by-Step Guide:

01 - Rinse dried beans and soak overnight if using. Drain before cooking.
02 - Dice onion, carrots, and celery. Mince garlic cloves.
03 - Place soaked or canned beans in slow cooker. Add ham bone or diced ham on top, followed by diced vegetables and minced garlic.
04 - Sprinkle thyme, black pepper, and bay leaf over ingredients. Pour chicken or vegetable broth until submerged.
05 - Cover and cook on LOW for 8 hours or HIGH for 4 to 5 hours until beans are tender and ham is falling apart.
06 - Remove ham bone or hock, shred meat, and return to pot. Discard bay leaf.
07 - Mash some beans or blend a portion with an immersion blender to thicken if desired.
08 - Taste and adjust salt and pepper as needed. Serve warm with bread or salad.
